Adult Literacy: Using Bible-based booklets in many languages helps in India

http://www.missionindia.org/content/curse-illiteracy

From this webpage:
“I had a very difficult time ... I couldn’t read or learn anything. My illiteracy was a curse,” Athalia says.
Then, 55-year-old Athalia enrolled herself in a Mission India Adult Literacy Class. Her neighbors mocked her, saying, “What good will education do at your age?”
But Athalia never missed a day of class.
After her long day of labor in the fields, she walked more than 3 miles just to attend her classes. Athalia worked hard to learn how to read in her language and do basic math.
Soon - for the first time in her life - Athalia signed her name and counted money!
In her class, Athalia also began reading the Bible. She learned to pray to Jesus and often asked her teacher to pray with her.
Then, Athalia accepted Jesus as her Savior.

Mission India provides:
  • training for volunteer teachers
  • a modest stipend for the teacher
  • 3 Bible-based lesson booklets for each student in a regional Indian language
The lesson for this blog:
The same 3 Bible teaching booklets could be "translated" into Garifuna and other languages.
The more Bible based the easier.
